Established in 1995, Castle Nursery at South Hill is nestled in the heart of Guildford town. Housed in a Victorian building which dates back to 1858, formally the first Primary School in Guildford, this historic locally listed building has been carefully and beautifully converted to meet the needs of the children, whilst retaining its character features.

South Hill is a 43-place nursery with three well-equipped rooms: a baby room for under-twos, a toddler room for two- to three-year-olds, and a preschool room for the three- to five-year-olds. There is also a separate cot and sensory room and two gardens, a smaller space for our youngest children and a larger garden where older children can run, play and explore.

We offer a range of extracurricular activities, including science club, cooking, Zumba and our Forest School programme. We like to get involved with our local community and take regular trips to theatre, farmers’ market, library and Guildford Castle grounds, helping children learn about the world around them.

Our dedicated and long-standing team is at the heart of South Hill’s warm, family feel, with some team members having been with us for more than two decades. Together, they bring experience, stability and a deep commitment to helping every child thrive.

Our management team

Amber Cespedes, Nursery Manager

Amber has worked in the childcare industry for over 20 years, gaining extensive knowledge across all age ranges. She first joined the company as a Team Leader and then quickly progressed to Nursery Manager in 2022. Amber believes that outdoor learning is key to children’s growth and development and has embedded it into everyday practice. As a mother of three, she understands and empathise with parents’ expectations within Early Years, and aims to create a family feel that is deeply connected with South Hill’s local community.

Megan Ridge, Deputy Nursery Manager

Megan has been part of the Castle team for over 11 years, beginning as a passionate volunteer and now a valued Deputy Manager. Megan has a deep love for childcare and a natural motherly ability to connect with children. She has a hands-on approach to encouraging their curiosity, weaving it into daily learning experiences. Megan is committed to working closely with children, parents and staff to ensure South Hill is a key part of their early years and remains a local favourite to all families.
